After 17 years of working as lead Occupational Therapist and Director at The Local Therapy Company,
Alison Harris is now retiring. Sam Shard, who has been a close colleague for many years, now takes over as Director.
It has been a huge pleasure to work with so many wonderful professionals, but most of all to have got to know so many amazing children and their families. As a company, we have always prided ourselves on being approachable and supportive to families and definitely going ‘the extra mile’ to ensure progress. I now leave this in the capable hands of Sam knowing that the company will continue to provide caring interventions for many years to come. A big thank you to all those I have worked with – I am certainly going to miss the fun, the crazy drawings of me done at assessments and the great comments from little people including a recent one from a little girl who thought I was probably about 30! Not bad being ready for retirement :0)
The Local Therapy Company is an independent occupational therapy service for children, adolescent, and young adults.
We can provide assessment and treatment for a wide range of difficulties experienced by children including:

Sensory Integration Difficulties (also known as Sensory Processing Disorder)

Dyspraxia and Developmental Coordination Disorder

Autistic Spectrum Disorders including Asperger's Syndrome and Pathological Demand Avoidance

Physical Difficulties and Learning Needs including poor motor skills and handwriting, global developmental delay.

We can offer input for your child at home or at school. Specialised reports for Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) Assessment or SENDIST Tribunals can be prepared once your child has been through our assessment process.

Our service is highly personalised and usually takes place in an environment familiar to the child. We work closely with parents and carers, school staff, other professionals such as educational psychologists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and case managers. We aim to provide an effective and individualised service which makes a real difference to children's and young people's lives.

We also offer training for parents and schools on a range of paediatric subjects.
